Prompt #1 part 4

Well, this is the long awaited update to my writing challenge. I’m sorry for the delays in everything, life has been really busy for me. I might even come up with a title for this… one day. Anyway, here is the next installment. It’s only taken me f*cking forever.

Part 4

She forgot about the envelope as the day progressed. It wasn’t until her shift was over that she even remembered that she had stuffed it in her apron. She pulled it out of her pocket and looked at it. Her name was written on the front in beautiful cursive lettering. She tucked it into her jacket pocket as she left the diner.

A shiver went down her spine as she walked to her car. She felt like someone was watching her but she didn’t see anyone. She unlocked her car door and climbed in. She couldn’t shake the eerie feeling of being watched. She buckled her seat belt and drove home.

It was only a few minutes but those few minutes felt like an eternity. She ran from her to car into her apartment building. She looked outside and saw someone standing just inches from the glass door that separated them. She froze as fear spread through her. She couldn’t see his face but his presence terrified her.
She slowly backed away from the door. She turned on her heel and fled up the stairs, not stopping until she was safely inside her apartment.
Billy watched her curiously from the couch. “Everything ok?”
She slid down the door and started to cry. “No. I’ve had this feeling of being watched since I left work. When I got inside some guy was standing outside watching me. When I saw him I froze. It was like I was looking at death. I’ve never been so scared.”
Billy picked her up off the floor and took her to the couch. He sat down and tucked her against his chest. “Everything will be alright.” He pulled off one of her shoes and threw it at the closet door. “Gladius get your ass out here.”
The apartment door flew open and Gladius walked in. “I wasn’t in the closet. I actually know how to use a regular door.” He looked at them in disgust. “What’s wrong with your little pet?”
“Someone followed her home from work and scared her,” he said, tucking hair behind her ear. He leaned back and settled her beside him. “Do you think you can go take a look?”

Gladius shook his head. “I just came in from outside. I didn’t sense anyone other than humans and the paras that live in this building.”

Billy looked at him curiously. Usually Gladius didn’t bother with coming in the front door. “You’ve never used the front door before/ Why now?”

Gladius’ perfect cupid’s bow mouth turned down. “I was trying to take into consideration your new little pet. I didn’t want to walk in and unexpectedly find her naked. It is one thing to find you naked, quite another to find her naked.”

“Why would you think you’d find her naked?”

A slender brow arched up. “As if you haven’t seen her in all her naked glory. You lived under her bed for how long?”

Billy’s face grew warm and he slightly choked as he tried to come up with an answer.

Carly pulled away from Billy her face bright red as she remembered all the things that she had done before knowing she had a roommate. Thoughts of her ‘celebratory’ night came to mind. Her blush deepened even more but a simmering heat started between her legs.

She watched as he argued with Gladius, noticing small little details that she hadn’t noticed before. like how his shirt stretched taut across his shoulders and chest, and how his jeans cupped his ass just so nicely.

She glanced away before she got caught checking him out. She really needed some alone time with her wonderful little rabbit that she had dubbed Fernando. Or she needed to get a boyfriend. She’ll go with option one. But where?

She snorted. Obviously not the bed. That was completely and utterly out. She was a lady, at least she tried to be anyway. The shower? Fernando wasn’t waterproof but they did have a detachable shower head. She looked up as she noticed the complete silence in the room. “What?”

Gladius smirked and tittered before turning away. Billy just looked at her, nostrils flaring. “I said, do you want take out?”

Gladius started choking and coughing. Billy growled and whacked him on the back bringing Gladius’ fit to an end.

“Uh, sure. How about Chinese? There’s a place around the corner that has some really good sushi,” she answered. There was definitely something going on as Gladius broke out in another coughing fit. Billy smiled but it was forced and he whacked Gladius on the back again.

She stood up and grabbed her favorite set of pajamas. “I think I’m going to take a shower. Just call the place and ask for my usual plus whatever you want.”

Billy watched her as she crossed the room, almost groaning as she grabbed the set of pink pants and tank top. She had no clue to the turmoil she was causing him. He knew she only wore that set after she had ‘fun’. She was going to be the death of him. Right after he killed his best friend as Gladius started having another coughing fit.

Galaxing Around Excerpt #3

The release of Galaxing Around is looming closer and my nervousness and excitement ratchets up. I hope all of you enjoy it when it comes out. If you haven’t pre-ordered your copy then you can do so here: http://goo.gl/TP2Wpe

So here is a excerpt for all of you to read while you wait.

Kria woke up entangled with Fyre and Verdal. She smiled and touched a lock of Fyre’s hair. He was different but like Verdal. They hadn’t had a chance to spend any time alone but she knew they would have time soon enough. A light knock had all of them climbing out of bed. She quickly pulled on her pants and shirt before opening the door.

Raznik looked at her, his eyes dark with worry. “We may have a couple of problems.”

“What is it?” Verdal asked from behind her.

“Drevyn and Adryn left the infirmary to sit with their mate. Both of them need medical attention but are refusing to budge from where they have taken up vigil,” Raznik said. “We also had a transmission from the resistance leader. Things aren’t good on Freor. They are having to evacuate refugees and not knowing where to send them…” He sighed. “I had her send the refugees to Kralien.”

Kria nodded. “Have Mira set course for Kralien. If we head there now we should make it before they do.”

“Already done, but that isn’t all,” Raznik said stoically.

“What else is there?” Fyre asked.

“Cronos has ordered any suspicious crafts leaving Freor to be either searched on sight or blown apart, whichever is more convenient.”

Kria looked at him in horror. “But that means he’s willingly killing hundreds if not thousands of innocent lives.”

Raznik nodded as Fyre and Verdal growled. “I have already contacted my crew. They will meet us on Kralien with anyone willing to fight for our cause.”

“What cause did you tell them?” Kria asked curiously.

“That we were going to free Freor.” Raznik smiled at her look of astonishment. He looked at Verdal. “Your sire has also contacted allies of his own. They will also be meeting us on Kralien.”

“I think it’s time we talk to my stalker and find out what she knows,” Kria said. Her people needed justice and if she needed to cut a few people down to do it then she was more than willing to do it.

Excerpt #2

The release of Galaxing Around is less than 20 days out! So I am giving everyone another excerpt. I hope you enjoy this little excerpt and be sure to order your copy of Galaxing Around today!

Excerpt:

Verdal growled in irritation as Alex and Fyre squabbled with each other. He hoped they found Kria soon or he would have to kill them. Then she would really be angry at him. Maybe he could accidentally lose them in this forest.

“Are we even sure she’s in this area? He could have dumped her anywhere on the planet. Plus how are even sure she is still alive?” Alex asked as he followed behind Fyre.

Fyre growled at him. “She better be alive or I’ll take my anger out on you.”

“Why me? Why are you acting like a child?” Alex asked. He had been volunteered to be the pack mule while Fyre hacked through the foliage and Verdal brought up the rear. Somehow he didn’t think it was fair that he had to haul everything around while those two only carried weapons.

“Immature?!” Fyre growled. He wanted to turn around and hack into Alex but he held his anger. “You’re the one who had us gallivanting around the galaxy because you couldn’t lock onto the planet’s signal. You wouldn’t believe Neera or Mira and they are AI’s!”

“Will you two shut up already? You’ve brought attention to ourselves with your squabbling.” He stopped and scanned their surroundings. He saw a stream not far from their location along with several groupings of boulders. “Come out. I know you’re there.”

Kria shifted to go towards them only to be held still by Raznik. He held a finger to his lips and pointed at a densely packed area of woods. She could only watch as her crew was surrounded by hunters. She also wanted to know why Fyre was with them. Didn’t they know he was part of the Death Squad?

She jumped in fright as another hunter seemed to materialize from nowhere in front of them and grabbed her. She grabbed her knife and sliced at his arm while Raznik embedded it in the hunter’s neck. They continued to fight as more hunters came towards them. They had injured almost all of them when one grabbed her around the waist and pressed a knife against her neck.. She swung her knife up, aiming for his head only to have it knocked from her hands.

Raznik held up his hands and handed his own knife over. He refused to be the reason for why she got hurt. The hunter took the knife from him and shoved Kria towards him. He wrapped his arms around her and growled angrily when the hunter shoved them both towards where her crew had been captured.

Verdal and Fyre looked to where the growling was coming from and saw Kria wrapped in the arms of a large unknown male. Both of them growled in anger at the sight of someone touching their mate.

A hunter hit them across the back of their heads. “Quiet.”

The hunters proceeded to cuff them and search them for any hidden weapons. Kria’s eyes widened at the amount of blades they removed from Verdal and Fyre. They widened even more when they pulled a long knife from Raznik’s clothing.

He shrugged at her inquiring look. “Found it while you were sleeping.”

She glowered at him as they were led towards a large clearing at the base of the valley. Raznik placed himself between her and her crew, causing Verdal and Fyre to growl. She glanced over her shoulder and saw them glaring at Raznik. Why were they growling? More specifically why was Fyre growling? She wasn’t anything to him but a bounty.

The hunters led them to the clearing and stopped them in the middle of it. Kria felt a shiver of apprehension creep down her spine. There wasn’t any signs of civilization. If they hadn’t been brought here to be used as food then why were they here?

One of the hunters pulled a com from his clothes and tapped on it. Not long after a ship came into view. She knew that ship. It was the same ship that she had to infiltrate to save Verdal. If Millie was here then that meant it was going to be downhill from there.

The ship landed and lowered the loading ramp. Millie was standing at the opening. She was dressed in her usual attire of skin tight pants and corset top. Millie loved to dress like a badass. Though being the queen of her species meant that she was one. But then she was kinda scary to look at. She was humanoid but several features from her true form showed through, mainly her soulless black eyes and fangs.

Kria cleared her throat. “Millie, what a nice surprise. What brings you out here?”

Millie laughed haughtily. “Why, my dear little Kria, I have come to make me late husband’s last wishes come true.”

Excerpt:

Kria stared at him in shock. This man was her brother. A brother that her parents never felt the need to tell her about. Anger coursed through her. Why didn’t they ever tell her about him? Why did the first time she ever met him have to be in the brig of Slag’s ship? She took a deep breath. Her parents always had a reason for the way they did things. She needed to change the subject before she gave into her anger and did something stupid like crying. “What is Slag planning to do with all of you?”

He chuckled at her quick subject change. “Coliseum fodder. Gotta love the creative thinking on Slag’s part.”

She laughed at the thought of Slag actually thinking about something. “Right? Maybe he’s in it for the quick money?”

“Not likely since the coliseums are now using any criminals as their fodder. So there is no point in paying for us lowly captives now.”

She sighed. If only she would be coliseum fodder. She would probably be used as a breeder for Slag and his goons or for the gladiators of the coliseum. “What exactly did you do to piss Slag off?”

He snorted at the memory. “I wouldn’t let him abuse one of the waitresses at the bar I regularly frequent. I beat him to a bloody pulp after he attacked her. His goons jumped me and hit me with a heavy dose of sedative while I was on my way to my ship. When I woke up I found myself here. Fracking quim hasn’t come near me since.”

She nodded in understanding. “I’ve had several run ins with him. He is a certified coward. Do you have a guess as to which coliseum they are taking us to?”

Raznik shrugged. “They are all the same really but my guess would be the Grondarion Coliseum. Then we will be pitted against each other for cheap entertainment and then used as fighting dummies for the next gen of gladiators. And you will most likely be used as a prize for the winner to use as he pleases. If you even make it to the coliseum.”

She stared at him drolly. “Aren’t you just a little ray of sunshine? I already know about being a breeder for someone and I already plan on biting off any dick that comes near me.”

He laughed at her feistiness. “If they even bring it close to your mouth. Besides someone has to give you the facts. After all you are the only female in here.”

“What?!” She glanced around. She was the only female in the brig. “Fracking hell.”

“Don’t worry, if we stick together things should be fine. Plus, I’ll kick anyone’s ass that tries to harm you. I am after all your older brother.”

She started laughing at his cocky attitude and look of self-righteousness. “Well aren’t you my knight in dingy armor.”

“Dingy? Please. This is full on rusty,” he scoffed.

They looked at each other before they both burst out laughing. It was nice to know that they both had a sarcastic sense of humor. Must have gotten it from their mother.

Excerpt & Rant

While I have been typing up Galaxing Around I have found that the jargon for my story is confusing, at least to me anyway. There are so many different words or phrases I can use for the same thing. So I am spending some time researching wonderful scifi jargon to see if I’m using the correct terminology.

Anyway, I will give you another short excerpt since I’m going to be a bit busy with researching my jargon.

Galaxing Around – Excerpt 2

She holstered her blaster and looked up at Fyre. “Thank you. That was the most fun I’ve had today.”

He quirked a brow. “You thought that was fun?”

She shrugged. “Why not? They ruined my night of getting drunk and blindly making my way to the tattoo shop. So why can’t I bust their faces in.”

“I can think of several different ways you can spend your nights. Especially with me.” He looked at her appreciatively.

She turned back to the bar and waved down the bartender. He handed her another glass of whiskey and went back to wiping the counter down. She tossed the glass down. “Feel like having a wild night with me?”

He smiled at her. “Just one question. Your place or mine?”

“Definitely yours.” She pulled some credits out of her pocket and tossed them on the counter “Let’s go kind sir.”

He grinned and bowed. “As my lady wishes.” He held out an arm for her and led her out the door.”

Fyre escorted Kria through the streets. His ship was docked on the other side of town from hers. Now that she had time to think over her actions maybe it was a bad idea to walk off with a male. “You’re not going to drag me into some dark alleyway and have your deranged way with me.”

He looked at her like she was deranged. “If you’re having second thoughts I can take you back to your ship.”

She watched him, how he moved like a graceful cat. “I don’t think it would be a good idea to take you back to my ship.” She moved in front of him. “Why do you really want me to go to your ship?”

He leaned down and nuzzled his nose against her face. “How hard is it to believe that I find you sexy as hell?” He pulled back and grabbed her hands, placing them on his chest. “I find your body irresistible and all I want to do is see you spread out on my bed ready for me.”

“Lead me to your ship, oh sexy one.”

“How about this.” He picked her up and tossed her over his shoulder. “Now we can get there even faster.” He sprinted the rest of the way to his ship. “Welcome to my humble abode,” he said as he set her back on her feet.

Galaxing Around Sneak Peek

This is still unedited and I am having second thoughts about a couple of character names. I haven’t finished writing this yet but I have been talking about giving everyone a sneak peek, so here it is! A quick glance at Galaxing Around. I haven’t gotten a cover yet but it’s in the works.

She exited her room and almost sprinted to the engine room. Maybe those two idiots had some good news for her. Or tell her that the engine they got was a complete waste of time. She really needed to get a new set of engineers or maybe just one, then she wouldn’t have to pay as much. She’d most likely end up with some craggy old male with no sense of humor who would demand more money than what she paid the twins already. Never mind replacing them. She would pay them less and buy more alcohol for herself. It wasn’t like she had anything else to keep her busy. Stupid male. No sense of loyalty or caring about mate marks.

She hit the keyboard next to the engine room and opened the door. “Hey, you two fracking idiots have any news for me?” A set of legs was sticking out from underneath the engine board.

“Not really.”

She glanced over her shoulder and saw the twins sitting on a couple of crates, a card game between them. “Who’s fixing the engine?”

Kell looked up from the cards in his hand. “Verdal’s fixing it.” He turned back to his cards and dropped two face down on the crate.

“Why aren’t you two fixing the engine?”

“Because those fracking idiots have no clue how to fix a fusion engine,” Verdal growled from beneath the control panel.

“If you didn’t know how to fix one of these why did you talk me into getting one?” she growled.

Fell dropped a card on the crate and drew two from the stack. “It’s pretty to look at, unlike that hunk of junk we had before.”

Kell grimaced and dropped three cards. “Plus we lost a bet against Kip.”

“Are you fracking serious?!” Kria grabbed her com. “Kip you are needed in the engine room immediately. You two stop sitting there and find us a port that has a fusion repair shop or something. You two will learn how to fix this!”

The door slid open revealing a fit man with graying hair and a cybernetic arm. “Kip, did you know that these two didn’t know how to fix a fusion engine when you made that bet with them?”

Kip growled at the twins. “You told!”

Fell shrugged and stuffed the cards in his shirt pocket. “We like our throats were they are. Besides if she beats the crap out of you then we have some form of entertainment.”

Kria growled in frustration. “Help Verdal fix this now!”

The speakers crackled as they came on. “Captain, we seem to have acquired the attention of a possible hostile ship.”

“What is the current status, Neera?” Great just another headache she needed.

“They are currently scanning my hull. I took the liberty of changing my serial code and the name on my hull, along with my current paint job.”

She sighed. “Hopefully that will be enough. I guess spending all those credits on the Chameleon Program was worth it.”

“I think you need to find a stress reliever Captain.” Fell chuckled as Kria turned pink.

“I’m going to kill all of you,” Kria growled. Sometimes being the only female on board really sucked.

“Torture me before you kill me. It makes awesome foreplay,” Verdal chuckled.

She snorted. “You’re such a perv.”

“Only for you, zemera.”

The speakers crackled again as Neera came back on the overhead. “Captain, I have identified the ship as part of the Lorakas Galactic Federation.”

“Just great. Anything else? Like they cancelled the bounty on my head?”

“Negative. They have doubled the bounty and any Federation officer that captures you receives a hefty payout along with a promotion within the ranks. You have become the Golden Goose.”

“Fuck me,” she groaned.

“I’m sorry Captain but I am physically incapable of doing so. You could enlist one of your crew-mates who would be willing to do so.”

Kria looked up at the ceiling. “Why? Why me?”

Verdal chuckled as he continued to work on the control panel. “Because, zemera, you have the best of luck.”

Kria shook her head. “Don’t I know it. Kip, you are temporarily in charge.”

“Why temporarily?”

“Do you have 30,000 credits to pay off this hunk of junk?”

Kip detached his arm and held it out to her. “I can give you my arm.”

“What am I going to do with that other than beat you with it?”

“I can think of several things. Especially with the vibration mode the fingers have.” Kip grinned as a low threatening growl came out from under the control panel. “Though if you ever feel like de-stressing you know where my room is and I can give you an in depth demonstration.”

“Or I can forcibly remove your male anatomy and sell it at market when we make port?” Kria smiled at him as he retracted his arm and reattached it.

Taming An Alpha Excerpt

Jack waited impatiently for Gabby to show up with Sparrow. He saw Gabby’s truck coming up the drive and waved her down. They climb out of the truck and walk up the drive. He stared at Sparrow, watching the sway of her hips, thinking about how he wanted to caress her curves. He shook his head. He really needed to get his brain out of his dick.

“Glad you could join us ladies. Last night there was an incident and Charise was kidnapped by her stalker, Ares. She was retrieved unharmed, mostly, and Freya would like our help canvassing the area. Sparrow, since you’re a PUA agent I figured you would be able to help her investigate the cabin.”

“I hate to break it to you but anything I find would be just circumstantial evidence due to the fact that I am an EX agent.”

“At this point I don’t think anyone cares.” He looked at Gabby. “You’ll be searching the surrounding area with me and the rest of the clans. The Ursus Clan and Shanbeel Pride are also helping with the search. Look for anything out of the ordinary.”

Gabby nodded and took off into the forest. Sparrow thought about all the protocols that were being broken but when push comes to shove she guessed it didn’t matter. She looked at Jack and found him staring at her, his eyes filled with a searing heat.

“You going to show me where this cabin is or are you going to drag me off to some secluded meadow to have your wicked way with me?”

He stared at her in shock. He wasn’t sure if she was serious or joking but his cock was in agreement with her suggestion. He grabbed her and pulled her close, smirking at her wide eyed look. “Don’t tempt me. I might just take you up on it.” He could faintly smell the sweet aroma of her arousal wafting in the air. “Let’s go help Freya before I really do drag you off and do all the wicked things my cat has been clamoring for me to do.” He turned on his heel and walked away.

Sparrow stared at him in confusion. Where was the asshat that she met when she came to town? Maybe he had a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde complex. Wait. Didn’t they call that bipolarism? Maybe. Was that a word?

She shook her head. He had flustered her and now she was becoming scatterbrained. She jogged to catch up to him. “So…” She tried to think of what she was going to say but lost all train of thought as he turned to look at her. “Dammit stop looking at me.”

He burst out laughing. “Why?”

“You’re making me scatterbrained.”

He continued laughing. She really was something else. She was kind of like a firecracker. Slow to fizzle with a sudden bang when she got angry or thrown off balance. The cabin came into sight and he quickened his pace chuckling as she ran to keep up.

“You’re an ass,” she said when they reached the front steps.

“Have to keep you from thinking I’m a gentleman.”

She watched him speculatively. “I think you are a gentleman. You just don’t want anyone knowing. Might ruin your rap as a badass alpha male.”

She was definitely smarter than she looked. He would have to watch what he said and did around her. He didn’t need her thinking he could be tamed. He knocked on the cabin door and waited for Freya to answer.

The door swung open revealing Freya’s somewhat frazzled appearance. She motioned them in as she stepped back. “Watch where you step.”

She turned and handed Sparrow a set of latex gloves. “Thanks for coming. The sheriff has decided that since this was a shifter crime this is a shifter matter. He is leaving us to it. But the only person that can help me is Sparrow. I am making you a temporary Council agent.”

Sparrow nodded in understanding and pulled the gloves on.

“I will leave you ladies to it. If you need me I will be helping search the surrounding area.” Jack turned and left leaving them alone.

“The unsub held Charise in there until she was rescued by her mates. I have found several hairs of varying colors and length. We won’t know if they are all from one person or multiples until I get them to a forensics lab. If you want to start in the bedroom, I’ll finish here in the living room.” Freya handed Sparrow a small forensics kit and headed to the far end of the main room of the cabin.

Sparrow walked into the bedroom and began looking for evidence. She found several hairs along with a few pieces of jewelry that were not characteristically worn by men. Unless they were cross-dressers. She picked up a ring and her breath caught in her throat. “Is the cabin privately owned or a rental?”

“According to my intel it is a privately owned cabin on 20 acres of property that has been in the Ursus family for the last five generations.”

“What about his mother? Alive or dead? Any sisters?”

Freya came into the room, stopping just inside the door. “Mother’s dead. No sisters. Why? Did you find something?’

“The loving touches around this room. Doilies on the nightstands, a vase of flowers, accent rugs. Men don’t usually think about things like that. He wasn’t a drag queen was he?”

Freya shook her head. “From what everyone has told me he was completely heterosexual but maybe he hadn’t come out about his sexuality.”

“Then we might be looking at multiple victims. I found these around the room.” She held up varying pieces of jewelry.

Freya picked up a bracelet. “This belongs to Camia Johnson. It was in the picture her mother gave me.”

“And this belongs to my sister.” She held up the ring. “Dad gave this to her when she graduated high school.”

“Your sister’s name is Robyn right?” At Sparrow’s nod she continued. “Gabriella told me about why you moved to town. I’m sorry that you had to move here just to find out what happened to her.”

“Didn’t you do the same thing?” Sparrow arched her brow knowingly. She had worked many cases that ended up going cold or that were deemed not important.
Freya chuckled. “Yeah I did. I guess I was also looking for a home for my pack and now the thought of leaving Millersburg just doesn’t sit right.”

They placed their evidence in bags and finished looking around the cabin. They found more hairs and jewelry but it was the blood stain they found under the living room couch that really unsettled them. Jack returned to the cabin as they were finishing up.

“There’s a warehouse just to the south of here. We can smell blood emanating from it. My men investigated it further and found what looks like a makeshift fight ring.”

Freya nodded. “Have your men stakeout the place and see if anyone comes back. If someone does do not apprehend them. We need to see if they can lead us to the missing women.”

“Women?” He only knew of Charise being taken. How many others had the sick bastard taken?

“Two confirmed with possibly more. I won’t know until I get my evidence to forensics. One of the confirmed is Sparrow’s sister Robyn.” Freya put the evidence and kits in her truck and pulled out a roll of crime scene tape and padlock. She was oblivious to the tenseness growing around her.

Jack looked at Sparrow. She hadn’t told him about a missing sister. But then he hadn’t really given her a chance to talk to him without him being an ass. Hell. Looked like he might be apologizing for being a horse’s ass. “Sister?”

Sparrow sighed and stepped off the porch. She walked down the drive towards Gabby’s truck but was deterred by Jack when he led her over to his. “My sister disappeared six months ago from this area. No one believes that she wouldn’t just take off like this.”

He helped her into the truck and got in. He revved the engine and pulled out of the drive. “I’m sorry that your sister was taken.”

She nodded. If only she had come with her sister maybe they would both be at home right now. But as her mother used to say, everything happens for a reason. “At least now I know she didn’t run away. I just wish I had gone with her like I was supposed to.”

“Why didn’t you?” He may be an ass but he was curious about the woman that drew him. He wanted to know everything he could about her. Well almost everything because women had to have secrets just like men. Hopefully his didn’t scare her too much.

“On my last assignment I was shot while looking into a rape case. I caught a silver bullet in the hip, shattering my pelvic bone. The doctor’s pinned my hip back together but couldn’t get all the silver out. I ended up a desk jockey because of the pain when I shift.” She absently rubbed at her hip, still feeling the lingering pain. “What should have only taken a couple of months to heal ended up taking eight. Robyn and I were supposed to come down here for some sister time but since I was injured I couldn’t come. She wanted to just stay at home and look after me. We had already paid for our cabin and on such short notice they wouldn’t refund our money. I told her to come down and have fun. Meet new people. Party.” She looked up at him with pain filled eyes. “I never thought about the danger she could have been in. I am a federal agent and I know about the dangers out there but I guess I always thought that nothing would ever happen to my family.”

“You didn’t know this would have happened.” He grabbed her hand, smoothing his thumb over her soft skin. “We will find her.”

“Don’t make promises you can’t keep.” She smiled sadly at him. He really was trying to not be an asshat. He pulled into the parking lot of Wolf Haven, turning towards her after cutting the engine. If only things were different. But if they were she most likely would’ve never have met him.

She looked so cute when she was deep in thought. He leaned across the space separating them and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. It felt like silk. Would her tiger’s fur feel the same way? He had never felt like this with anyone else before. Could she be…
He inhaled her scent, the harsh acrid smell of her suppressant was gone and in its place was the smell of fresh meadows and strawberries. She was a tiger shifter. His tiger growled as the need to claim her washed over him.

He clenched his teeth as he felt his incisors lengthen. Thank God she wasn’t looking at him at the moment or he would have looked weird as hell fighting with his inner beast. Turning into an oversized prehistoric tiger inside his truck would not have been a good thing. He would have squished her and possibly broken his truck. Fat ass cat.

His tiger snarled at him.

Sparrow turned to thank him for bringing her home. She saw his eyes flash in the darkness and felt her tiger purr. He was still an ass even though he had been nice to her. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of adding a notch to his bed post tonight.

“Thank you for bringing me home.” She opened the truck door. “I’ll see you tomorrow at work.”

He grabbed her hand before she could climb out. “I’ll pick you up in the morning. We have a lot to talk about.” Like finding a secluded spot along the road or going back to his lair and claiming her. But why didn’t she feel the connection? She was a shifter so why didn’t she acknowledge that he was her mate?

She narrowed her eyes and watched him curiously. “Ok in the morning then.” She climbed from the truck. “Goodnight Jack.” She closed the door and walked into Wolf Haven.

He watched her ass jiggle with each step. This woman called to both the man and beast. “Goodnight kitten.” He would be claiming her soon. But would she accept him as her mate?
